Sponsoring
the Arts in Local Schools
The Coalfield
Communities Federation (CCF) sponsors an annual Art Competition,
which is open to school children in the Coalfield Area.
Local primary and secondary school pupils are encouraged
to think about their communities, past and present, and
use landmarks or issues linked to the area as the focus
for their artwork.
In the past
the competition has covered themes such as "Coalfield
Heritage", "Transport in the Jubilee Year"
and "VE/VJ 60th Anniversary".
This year the
theme for the competition covers "Renewable Energy".
This topic has risen in importance over the years and
we hope that with schools entrying the competition, it
raises pupils' awareness of the importance of renewable
energy.
Prizewinners
(see pictures on right) received a selection of goodies,
such as gift vouchers, art boxes and miniature Glennies
(authentic miners’ lamps). Cumnock Academy and Mauchline
Primary schools received a full size Glennie Miners Lamp
to display for the coming year.
We were amazed
at the number of entries from schools for this years competition
(over 200 entries) and would like to thank all schools
and pupils who took part in the competition.
