"Price of Coal" Musical Production Text Size Normal Large

The Price of Coal is a full-length musical telling the history of coalmining.  The original concept was developed by George Kearton and Valerie Tottey in 2002 and was premiered in Wigan in the Spring of 2004 with a cast of over 1000 local primary school children.

The CCF was successful in applying for £14,263 from the Cumnock and Doon Valley Minerals Trust and also from East Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership.  This was used to fund 7 concerts starting off at Patna Primary School in 22 May 2007 and finishing at Muirkirk Primary School in 20 November 2007.  The Muirkirk performances tied in with the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Kames Colliery Disaster .

The CCF worked in partnership with the Drongan Schaw Kirk who had hosted the concert previously in Drongan Primary School in September 2006.

Ticket and programme sales from all 7 concerts has enabled the CCF to raise £4,500 which will be distributed evenly between all 18 schools that took part.

The CCF would like to thank all organisations and individuals who helped to make this project so successful.
